On this dance trip to Brazil, you will explore the warmth of Brazilian culture and dance zouk in the country where it was born. Your adventure is based in Rio de Janeiro where the traditional zouk style was first developed around the mid 90’s.
During the day, you can head to Ipanema beach or Copacabana beach, sip an acai juice, or sleep in after a night out on the town. In the evenings, you will take Zouk classes and explore Rio’s famous dance and music scene. Through our partnerships with top studios and instructors, we offer the unique opportunity to connect with Brazilian dancers, take dance classes of the highest caliber, and see the city through locals’ eyes.

Melaina Spitzer, Dance Adventures Director, Brazil:
After seven years in Latin America, Melaina returned to the US to work with Dance Adventures and launch her coaching company Inner Peacebuilding. While abroad, she lived in Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador where she studied local dances.
In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Melaina fell in love with dancing and singing Tango, reported on the Tango de Salon Championships for the BBC, and completed her Master’s in Peace, Conflict, and Security as a Rotary World Peace Fellow. She then moved to Brazil for three years where she worked in sustainable development and trained in Brazilian Ballroom styles including Forró, Samba and Zouk.
Melaina also led youth trips in Africa, South America and the US for National Geographic, Putney Student Travel, and World Learning. Through this experience and her work with Dance Adventures, she has seen firsthand the power of dance to facilitate personal growth and community building.

|1||On Monday, you will depart on your overnight flight from Miami. Sip champagne on the plane with your dinner as you travel to the birthplace of zouk.|
|2||You’ll have a couple of hours to rest, unpack, and get ready for the day once you check into the hotel. After a walking tour of the neighborhood, we will have lunch together. In the evening, you will have your first dance class and the option to go out on the town.|
|3||After orientation on the beach, you’ll clean up and head out for dance classes. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, we’ll head to one of the most famous clubs in Rio for dinner and live music.|
|4||After a morning on the beach, we take a cooking class with one of the most famous female entrepreneurs in Brazil. Regina Tchelly is changing the way people eat in the country’s favelas, and you’ll fall in love with her big personality and her delicious recipes. In the evening, we have more dance classes and another evening out.|
|5||A visit to Prainha Beach is followed by a zouk workshop with the Ramalhos family. Zouk en Casa is our dance venue for the night. At this local house party, you can try out your new moves with your local friends.|
|6||Take in the view of Rio from atop Urca and Sugarloaf Mountains. You can choose to hike up Urca or take the cable car for a scenic view. You will take the cable car the rest of the way up to Sugarloaf. Celebrate with a Caipirinha before heading back down. Our final evening includes more dance classes and another great night out.|
|7||Sleep in, pack up and have one more taste of Brazilian barbecue. You’ll have a few more hours for last-minute shopping before your transfer to the airport.|
