Melaina Spitzer, Dance Adventures Director, Brazil:
After seven years in Latin America, Melaina returned to the US to work with Dance Adventures and launch her coaching company Inner Peacebuilding. While abroad, she lived in Argentina, Brazil and Ecuador where she studied local dances.
In Buenos Aires, Argentina, Melaina fell in love with dancing and singing Tango, reported on the Tango de Salon Championships for the BBC, and completed her Master’s in Peace, Conflict, and Security as a Rotary World Peace Fellow. She then moved to Brazil for three years where she worked in sustainable development and trained in Brazilian Ballroom styles including Forró, Samba and Zouk.
Melaina also led youth trips in Africa, South America and the US for National Geographic, Putney Student Travel, and World Learning. Through this experience and her work with Dance Adventures, she has seen firsthand the power of dance to facilitate personal growth and community building.
Melaina leads our Brazil and Argentina trips.
